Old Year and New Year by Christina Rossetti

New Year met me somewhat sad:
Old Year left me tired,
Stripped of favourite things I had
Baulked of much desired:
Yet further on my road to-day
God willing, further on my way.
Happy New Year

Lady Godiva

Our town, Coventry, England, is famous for the Lady Godiva legend.

Essentially a woman supposedly rode around our city about 1000 years ago on a horse without wearing any clothes to embarrass her husband into reducing taxes for the poor. Some historians now doubt if that did in fact happen.

There is a statue of her in the city centre.

Do a wikipedia search for "Lady Godiva" to find out more.

I wonder if Mrs Cameron could do the same. Do you think anyone would take any notice?

Well Mrs Cameron (the PM's wife) instead dressed up in a red wig and looked like a worker in a baker's shop for charity. When she was (and still is) the PM's wife (i.e. while the PM was in power)

This is a pic of her.

She baked the cakes personally, apparently. And then sold them to staff working at 10 Downing Street (the PM's official residence) for "Red Nose Day".

So while Godiva stripped off SamCam (as she is known over here) got dressed up.

Nudity is the focus of this story too @Kindgnice, but I doubt the emperor looked so elegant with no clothes!
