By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather
And autumn’s best of cheer.

Helen Hunt Jackson - September
The breezes taste
Of apple peel.
The air is full
Of smells to feel-
Ripe fruit, old footballs,
Burning brush,
New books, erasers,
Chalk, and such.
The bee, his hive,
Well-honeyed hum,
And Mother cuts
Chrysanthemums.
Like plates washed clean
With suds, the days
Are polished with
A morning haze.

I know there's already a discussion about Halloween in another section but it's closed. So basically, if I remember well on the night of Oct. 31st the Celts believed the Dead came back to Earth and hence they dressed up as spooky creatures to show they were friends with the Spirits. In France it was very popular in the 1990s but now very few kids go tricking or treating. But I still dress for the occasion and buy treats, as well as set up the Halloween decoration.
