"Still lie the sheltering snows, undimmed and white;
And reigns the winter's pregnant silence still;
No sign of spring, save that the catkins fill,
And willow stems grow daily red and bright.
These are days when ancients held a rite
Of expiation for the old year's ill,
And prayer to purify the new year's will."

The Turnip Prize

As a counter to the Turner Prize, a pub in England now announces the Turnip prize every year. It's a contest which recognises the lack of effort made by all entrants, and has an amazing prize - a turnip mounted on a six-inch nail.

The results are - hilarious...

    @lenny I didn't believe an award so. Is amazing how the winner gets, receives £25,000.

    Is this a real turnip?

    @Biso - Yes, the Turner prize winner gets money, but the Turnip prize winner gets a turnip. As far as I know it's a real turnip @Bubbly.

    It's at times like this that I really miss England. :smile:

    @lenny tradition that you find only to the own country. :)

    I think I'd be in with a pretty good chance of winning the Turnip @Lynne. I used to always come last in most sports contests and I'm sure that just by holding a raffle ticket or betting on a horse I was jinxing it.

    Yesterday I actually did win a prize after all. It seems I might not be a good contender for the Turnip after all.

    Wow awesome!. Nobody would have imagined what was the worth of that turnip.
