What is one to say about June? The time of perfect young summer, the fulfilment of the promise of the earlier months, and with as yet no sign to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade.

How do you celebrate St Valentine's Day?

@Lynne, as far as your today's question is concerned, I used to brood about what love is when I was younger. But now I am meditating how static friction can directly accelerate a car. Becoming prosaic. :(

@Xanthippe I think this is called growing up!

I didn't know what mittens were, let alone 'The Smitten'. Luckily a nursery rhyme my son got in his English lessons on school, helped me on the way.

This year we were meant to go to see Wolf Alice, but they cancelled. I guess we will go out for a meal instead.

@GemmaRowlands - You will have to pamper yourself.

    Hi my dear,
I know what you mean but I want to give you a piece of advice that there is lot of boys who are good and you will find someone who he deserves you,but some opportunities in life won't come back if you let them go.It is good that you fall in love but hear this from me as your brother that you should be careful about your decisions. Thus, try to be clever in making decisions.
I wish you luck wherever you are and whatever you do!! ;)
Btw,I really like you exact planning(because you said:2 years later)!!!

I like your advice @navidafrasiabian I know it wasn't aimed at me, but it is something that is useful for me to read at the moment, so thank you very much for that.

I don't celebrate this day. In my opinion this day is only of commercial interest and an invention of the flower industry.
I don't want my husband to think on doing me a favour or having a nice day/evening with me only on one special day in the year. For us this is business as usual, and we celebrate our relationship almost every day with little things. He comes home with flowers some times, I buy him a small present when I see something nice, we cook something special ... without any special reason, just to show our love. And not only on Valentine's Day, but on almost every day.
(Just my 2 cents - I know that my opinion differs from the standard.)

without girlfriend. In India, it was a bit difficult for you celebrate because of tradition and customs for native people. but in present time, the day is now quite popular and celebrated in most of cities.

@Sanne, i totally agreed with you, valentine's day is commercial business day Selling gits, flowers, conducting events and increase restaurant business. You can express love with your partner or boy/girl friend any time any day. There is no specific day for this..
Lover please don't waste money buying flowers ,gifts and etc on valentine's day..

Why only partner? we can celebrate it with loved ones.

The origin of this holiday for the expression of love really isn't romantic at all -- at least not in the traditional sense.

We don't celebrate it. But, I usually send messages to my sisters and friends on this day. :)

Like @srinij @Sanne I believe that it is more like a commercial thing now. We can't dedicate one day for love.
  • GemmaRowlandsGemmaRowlands Moderator Posts: 10,331 mod
@Sanne you make a very fair point about the day being commercialised now. That is very much the case in my country. But there are ways that you can enjoy the day without having to subscribe to all of that.

There are lots of ways around the so-called commercialisation of Valentine's day.

Make your own card or present - you can easily make some delicious chocolates.
Cook a meal together. (If you can't cook) give your other half a promissory note for a romantic meal.

As for every day being a special day, yes of course, but not every day can be full of romance. Life's not like that. On Valentine's day in my house, we make sure we do things together.

The TV is turned off, and the music player is switched on.
The light bulbs are switched off, and the candles are lit.
The hoover stays in the cupboard, and the Scrabble board comes out.

@Leyla, my advance valentines day wishes for both of you.
Our place no snow fall, no chance for ice skates.

Wow @Leyla that's a good way to celebrate the day! I'm curious to see how Nepalese couples will celebrate. Unfortunately for them though, Sunday is a normal working day.
