"Still lie the sheltering snows, undimmed and white;
And reigns the winter's pregnant silence still;
No sign of spring, save that the catkins fill,
And willow stems grow daily red and bright.
These are days when ancients held a rite
Of expiation for the old year's ill,
And prayer to purify the new year's will."

    Sri Lanka airport has installed these scanners @Vok. I noticed that nearly all the Asian passengers (not Indian) seemed to wear masks, though very few European or American passengers. However Asians seem to wear masks generally due to the air pollution, so I guess they're much more used to wearing them.

    I've read an opinion that it's a waste of money to install those scanners @mheredge . In Canada, screening for SARS at airports in 2003 detected no instances of the desease, however that year it killed 44 people there.

    I wasn't totally convinced @Vok. I saw the scanner but I certainly wasn't even scanned. I have the feeling that that it wasn't very rigorous.
